Ingredients

1cup diced dates

3/4 cup raisins

1tsp baking soda

1 cup boiling water

2 tbsp soft butter

1cup sugar

1tsp vanilla

1 1/3 cup flour

1egg

1/2 tsp salt

3/4 cup chopped nuts

Preparation

Place dates and raisins in bowl. Add baking soda and boiling water. Cover and set aside for 20 minutes. Cream butter and sugar. Add vanilla and eggs and beat well. Add flour and salt and mix well. Pour in fruit mixture including liquid. Add nuts and mix gently to prevent crushing of fruit. Bake in greased loaf pan at 350 degrees for about 45 minutes.
