Ingredients

2 cups flour, sifted

2 cups sugar, granulated

1 tsp baking soda

1 1/2 tsp salt

4 Tbsp cocoa

1 cup water

1 stick unsalted butter

2 eggs

1/2 cup buttermilk

1 tsp vanilla

Preparation

bring water and butter to a boil in small saucepan and remove from heat.

Sift together flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and cocoa in large bowl.

Pour in water/butter mixture and stir slightly. Mix together 2 eggs, buttermilk and vanilla, add to bowl and stir until smooth.

Pour mixture into greased and floured 9-inch springform pan (or 2 8-inch rounds for layer cake)and bake at 350 for 30 - 40 minutes.

Allow to cool and turn onto cake plate. Dust with powdered confectioner’s sugar or choice of topping, or serve plain.
