Ingredients

Sugar - 1.25 (1 1/4) cups

Buttermilk - 1 cup

Vegetable oil - .66 (2/3) cups

Eggs - 2

Vanilla - 1 teaspoon

All-purpouse flour - 1.5 (1 1/2) cups

Cocoa powder - .5 (1/2) cups

Baking soda - 1.25 (1 1/4) teaspoons

If making frosting:

Unsalted butter - 1 stick

Chopped chocolate - 2 ounces

Cocoa power - .33 (1/3) cups

Vanilla - 2 teaspoons

Powdered sugar - 2 cups

Sour cream - .66 (2/3) cups

Preparation

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Spray Pam on one 8-inch diameter cake pan with 1.5 inch-high sides.
  3. Dump sugar, buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla into a bowl and either hand-stir or whisk.
  4. Sift in flour, cocoa, and baking soda while stirring.
  5. Once a rich brown, spread evenly into pan.
  6. Bake for twenty-five minutes.
  7. Place onto a plate.
